Apparently, the west coast of Scotland has better and more stable weather than the east coast. We’d like to boast that we planned that, but we just got lucky :)
Pretty much everything else, though, was meticulously planned and worked out beforehand.
Alexandra Knights designed and tested the special effects make-up weeks in advance, while Faye Booth made a whole range of tattoo sketches.
The location was scouted not once, but twice, involving Edmund, cinematographer, and Luke Deering ,art director, as well as producer Joy to prepare the production side of filming there.
Colour schemes were drawn up, lighting design discussed, and storyboard art sketched. Even though we were working on a tight budget, the level of commitment to the preparation elevated the whole look of the film to the high quality it is now.
Huddling together with cast and crew on location for 3 weeks sounds like a challenge, and at some level it was, but we had such a lovely collection of people working on this, driven, passionate, and committed to success, that ultimately it became a very close-knit and smooth-running set.
It turned into a memorable experience of conjuring up the magic of the location and capturing it on camera with a dedicated cast.
That it all paid off was apparent in last Sunday’s private screening in the Curzon Soho, London. A moment of closure, as we’ve now completed the film, packaged and ready to present it to sales agents, distributors and festivals!
